Normalcy. It was the state Brad Miller had spent his entire thirteen years in. He had lived in the same white house on Dreis Lane his whole life. His mother and father were still together and happy. Even his eight-year-old brother Dylan had remained the same pain in the neck he had always been. From the time he woke up in the morning to the moment he slipped into bed at day's end, Brad could pretty much count on the same schedule breakfast at 645, school until 215, soccer or hockey practice until 530, family dinner at 600, then homework. It never changed. Things have a tendency to change when you're thirteen years old.

Plot/Storyline: 5 Stars

Told from various viewpoints, this novel took me into the lives of a family torn apart by their oldest son's, Brad, cancer diagnosis. It not only told of Brad's feelings, but also of those of his parents and his younger brother.

I enjoyed the fact that the novel did not get too technical on the medical aspects of Brad's illness and treatment. It only conveyed what the reader needed to know for the storyline. This kept the story from getting bogged down with jargon.

Towards the end was a surprise that was like a punch to the stomach. While reading it, I actually realized I had my mouth hanging open in shock. I just never saw it coming.

Have a tissue handy. This book is a real tear-jerker.

Character Development: 4 1/2 Stars

This author had an interesting way of developing characters. Although told from viewpoints of the main characters, their thoughts are not really delved into very deeply. Mostly, the reader must ascertain personalities by actions and words. Fortunately, Mr. Mitchell was very adept at this technique.

The parents' development fell pretty short, but Brad's and his brother's personalities were so well done that I felt as though I knew them.

Writing Style: 5 Stars

The sentence structure made for an easy reading flow. I think for some authors, getting the dialogue of kids and teens to be realistic is pretty difficult. Mr. Mitchell, however, excelled at "young dialogue," giving his young protagonists true voice.

Editing/Formatting: 5 Stars

Both were of professional quality.

Rating: PG-14 for Adult Situations

Another Thin Line edition by Christopher Mitchell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book, Another Thin Line, was moving and thought provoking in many ways that I did not expect from a work of fiction. I found it evoking emotions for the characters which they didn't seem to feel for themselves. After I finished the book, I went back and read it again, with a different perspective, and enjoyed it just as much as the first time, but in a different way. Even tho I was a skeptic, I now find myself watching for those thin lines.
Wow. With so many books out in the kindle universe, coming across a gem like this is rare. Another Thin Line is the story of a family that is basically ripped apart from one son's cancer diagnosis. Each person in the family deals with his diagnosis in a different way and none of them are healthy. I'm not giving away any other plot points because this story is TOO good. It is a MUST read. However, prepare to cry. It's a realistic story. It is sad. It is also uplifting in ways. The shocker for me was the type of cancer the boy had. It's the same cancer my little brother died from 10 years ago and that really threw me for a loop, but I made it through the book. It needs to be read. Enjoy this book. The author did an amazing job.
